5 Signs Your AC Needs a Tune Up

Yikes, what’s that sound and smell coming from my AC unit?!

Most of us have experienced some type of issue with our air conditioning before. Not sure whether or not you may need an AC repair? Here are five tips that might help you decide!

AC is Not Cooling

If your home feels like it isn’t being cooled to the temperature on your thermostat, it may be time for an air conditioning repair. An easy way to tell is by placing your hand over the air vent or cooling register. If the air is warm, it’s probably time for a tune up. Many common issues can cause an AC unit to blow warm air instead of cool. This problem can make your energy bills go up as well due to it continuously running, so it’s important that you get your AC checked immediately if you notice any issues.

AC is Loud

Another tell-tale sign that you need an AC repair is sound. Your AC unit should naturally be relatively quiet. If you begin hearing unusual grinding, rumbling, or buzzing noises coming from your HVAC system, your AC is in definite need of a tune up.

AC Smells

An easy way to tell if you need an air conditioning repair is by smell. If you begin to smell a musty odor in your home, your air ducts or filter may need to be cleaned. Debris build-ups or leaks can cause your HVAC system to smell funky. If you start noticing an odor, it’s important to have your AC checked in order to prevent expensive problems or even mold spores from building up in the future.

AC is Leaky or Moist

Although this is sometimes more difficult to detect, a heavy amount of moisture in the air or a leaky AC unit can be signs that you need an air conditioning repair. This could be due to a refrigerant leak, which can easily be fixed by our AC repair experts if noticed early on.

Air Flow is Weak

You should normally feel air coming out of your vents. If you begin noticing that the air flow coming out of these vents is weak, you’re probably in need of an AC repair. This problem is more than likely due to a dirty or clogged air filter, meaning the repair is typically simple and cost-effective!

If you’ve been noticing any of these signs, or your AC hasn’t been checked in over a year, it’s time for a tune up. The experts at Mr. Duct are HVAC wizards who can help you check and fix your air conditioning to ensure peak performance this summer.
